Comment:
The jumping off point for this mix was decidedly different from anything I had done before. It all began with the image that you see on the front cover artwork and developed from there. From my perspective, I tried to imagine what the two men may have been saying to each other or thinking. It was apparent that each had so many memories to share with the other. And that was the way Funky Ratchet and and Avocado Rabbit approached the mix, sharing memories of songs and comments about their choices.Matt sent along a quotation from John Lancaster Spalding, which I thought was particularly relevant to this project. "As memory may be a paradise from which we cannot be driven, it may also be a hell from which we cannot escape."
Each one of us has but one life to live and passing along memories of that lifetime to one's family and frie nds and sometimes to larger audiences is an opportunity to keep your light burning even after you've left this earth. Perhaps Sainte Teresa of Avila said it better when she wrote, "Remember that you have only one soul, that you have only one death to die, that you have only one life.
If you do this, there will be many things about which you care nothing."
Those words made me think in the same way the image we began this mix with did. Making mixes is one thing both Matt and I care about, even if we only have this one lifetime to make them. In that spirit of sharing, we hope everyone enjoys this mix.
And, as usual, here is a quiz. Which of the musicians on this mix first drove Jimmy Buffett to Key West in, of all cars, a Packard?
Feedback:
Wow. Always nice to see a Tindersticks track. This looks great. Love the cover art too. Well done.
Jerry Jeff Walker drove Jimmy Buffett to Key West in a Packard.
Glad I decided to finally visit and catch this. Really well done. The Son Volt pick is an all-timer for me.
freemethodist has a winner with JJ Walker behind the wheel. Must have been quite a trip!
Nice one!I really enoyed listening to this one. Thanks for making my day!
I applaud you for this... really great all around
Looking forward to hearing Jimmie Dale cover Hank. Great looking mix guys.
Really nice to listen to. Although I'm pretty sure after listening that "Jose Cuervo" is Shelly West's version, who often partnered with David Frizzell (Lefty's brother). A great mix nevertheless, with a bunch of my favorite artists.
Phantasmagoric cover art! Incredible mix from 2 most excellent mixers. Thank you!
I am a bit down lately. I listened to this mix last night.
I am well impressed.

I must say it again. This mix rules.
