Less Used R&B Grooves from 1963
Comment:
This mix was due to a tip I received from Rockin' Jim Rigsbee (from KPOO radio) who has the Grinder's Grooveyard Show on the radio every Monday night. He clued me in to the fact that Joel Whitburn now had a pay site of his data on the internet. You can find it at http://www.recordresearch.com/, and you will receive 5 free credits to try out the site. What I did with my credits is I did a search for all R&B songs for the year 1963, then made this mix based on the songs that didn't make the top 10 on the R&B ch_arts (and most of them, with the exception of the first and last song) didn't do so well on the Pop ch_arts (four of those used didn't make the Pop Top 100 ch_arts at all). Three songs here are by Otis Redding which I can't help but think that they are all top notch, even if one of them didn't cross over into the Pop ch_arts (the picture is of him).
Feedback:
I always love your mixes, Joe...informative and full of great tunes. I only know a small handful here, but it looks impeccably researched. Will have to take a look at that site too.
Haven't heard people like Gene Chandler and The Orlons in ages. If for nothing else but hearing them, it would worthwhile. But looks to be a whole lot more to discover here.
I'm loving this Baby Washington track. Overall this is great, but that song just stays with me. Thanks for sharing.
Seriously in depth! And great to learn of Whitburn's site... thanks.
