Comment:

Well, I know I've been absent for a month and a day, but I fully inten-d to make up for lost time!

I had just recently posted my MIX #147, or - as I like to refer to it - my American Mix. It's something I had brewing in my head for quite some time, and I decided to give it - if not a fully-fledged concept per se - then some kind of vague thematic unity. And I dedicated it to Barack Obama, the brand-new 44th President of the United States of America!

Of course, when I spen-d a great deal of time piecing together some big idea for a mix, I ultimately have to pick and choose what I want to include from a very long list of ideas, and of course some songs will inevitably get the chop so as to bring the running time down to the accepta-ble 2 hours and 40 minutes or less which can fit on a pair of blank CD-R's! So with this mix, and on my next couple of mixes, you'll be seeing a great deal of what wound up on the cutting room floor when I pieced together MIX #147! :)

Autobahn < Roadrunner - Warmly dedicated to KathrynandRupert - wherever they are! - and to all the other veteran cool kids out there. BTW, this is the first time I've included anything by Kraftwerk or Jonathan Richman/Modern Lovers (and the very last time for the foreseeable future, seeing as how these are the only tracks by those two artists that I have in my collection - ha, ha!). Come to think of it, I haven't included anything by the Knickerbockers, either, which of course leads us to...

One Track Mind (X 3) - The title says it all, I suppose! [*wink*]

Too High To Fly - A '90s comeback track from '80s L.A. pop-metal outfit Dokken, a darker and more sinister rocker than one would have expected from the band up to that point! Lead singer Don Dokken sings at the lower en-d of his range, going more for a Jim Morrison/Scott Weiland thing, and axemeister George Lynch goes for a modern, bluesy grind not unlike Jimmy Page crossed with Soundgarden's Kim Thayil.

Anyone Can Play Guitar < Woman In The Window - It's sort of an informal tradition I have of putting a song making reference to another artist back-to-back with a song by the artist being referred to in the other song. (See also: Calling Dr. Love < Surren-der and I Hate Myself And I Want To Die < Californication on earlier mixes...)
