Comment:
Well, here's another one! Never let it be said that I don't make up for lost time...Intro < Back In Yer Face - The first two tracks from Hanoi Rocks' second post-comeback album of the new century. The first track is just five - five! - seconds long, and qualifies as an "(instrumental)" only by virtue of classification. This Intro is actually the sound of bubbling bongwater capped off with the sound of someone inhaling (ha, ha, ha!), after which comes an actual song! Why did I even bother including the Intro, you may ask? Well...I really don't know! :) Why not? I mean, it's only five seconds' worth of running time. Not a huge waste of space, after all...
High In High School / Ceiling Life - A couple of hard-rocking early '90s indie/punk obscurities. I've used exactly one song apiece from both Chainsaw Kittens and Bullet LaVolta on earlier mixes (if one wishes to look them up!). Maybe I ought to use more in the future... [*wink*]
Automatic Gun - I've never exactly been a huge fan of Japan and David Sylvian, but I do have a soft spot for their first two albums, which have this eccentric English glam/funk/hard-rock flavor to them. I've always loved Automatic Gun especially because its guitar riff is just so damn...well...nifty! (Not to mention those way-cool "ooh-wee-ooh" Beach Boy vocal harmonies on the final verse!)
On My Way To The Cage < Domination < In The En-d - On the face of it, a decidedly peculiar choice of transition. But there's an emotional intensity to Peter Hammill's work that makes his work hold up when placed back-to-back with the most brutal, aggressive metal or punk. I remember way back on one of my earlier mixes, when I sandwiched Hammill's Betrayed smack in between Pantera's Fucking Hostile and Metallica's Damage, Inc.! It worked like a ch-arm, even though both metal bands were slamming at full blast and the Hammill song was just his voice accompanied by violin and acoustic guitar! In the case of In The En-d, we have a quietly intense ballad for vocal and piano which winds Disc #1 down after a two-pronged aggro-assault from Rollins and Pantera!
