Comment:
And in an interstellar (pronounced "intastella", of course! [*wink*]) burst...I am back with another mix! :) Anyway...you may have noticed that there are a lot of covers on this mix, including a lot of songs I've included on earlier mixes, only recorded by different artists! These would include:
Born To Be Wild (X 2) - The classic Steppenwolf/Easy Rider anthem, performed by a pair of Cults! (Ha, ha!) These covers are deliberately placed towards the be-ginning and en-d of the program, just after the first number(s) (Warrior Soul's Intro < Interzone duo) and just before the last number (RATM's War Within A Breath).
Interzone / Dead Souls - A pair of Joy Division numbers, covered by Warrior Soul and Nine Inch Nails. (I had previously used the original Joy Division versions on earlier mixes.)
Space Oddity / The Man Who Sold The World - A pair of David Bowie numbers, covered by Saigon Kick and Nirvana. (I had previously used the original Bowie versions on earlier mixes.)
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - That eternally classic Righteous Brothers ballad, here ren-dered by Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers' short-lived '80s outfit The Firm.
Tell Me - One of the very first Jagger/Rich-ards original compositions, included on the Stones' very first album! I had used the Dead Boys' 1978 cover version on an earlier mix, but not the original until now.
Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Even though I've used Dylan's 1973 original, as well as Antony & The Johnsons' cover from the I'm Not There soundtrack, it only occurred to me recently that I hadn't used GN'R's cover version!
Sunshine Of Your Love - The Cream classic, done here by Living Colour. (Once again, I've already used the original...)
So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star - Even though I had used Patti Smith's cover version from 1979, until now I haven't used the Byrds' original.
Gloria - Even though I had used the Van Morrison/Them original as well as Patti Smith's version - again! - I hadn't used the Doors' version until now. (And this is the explicit, uncensored, live version from the '97 box set!)
Swallow My Pride - I had used Soundgarden's cover of Green River's early proto-grunge chestnut, but I hadn't used the original. (And to complicate matters even further, this is actually Green River's second released version, which I believe came out after the Soundgarden cover!)
Hair Of The Dog - The classic Nazareth rocker, which I hadn't used until now, even though I did use GN'R's 1993 cover on an earlier mix.
Oh, by the way...I almost forgot! There are two more eliminations:
153. Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II (1991) (#154 - 2/17/09)
154. Nirvana - Nirvana [compilation] (2002) (#154 - 2/17/09)
(I thought I had eliminated Use Your Illusion II a while back on an earlier mix, but as I stated above, I had forgotten about the cover of Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door!)...
Feedback:
Another cosmic blast, D.P.! Have to confess that the "Radiodread" reggae version of Airbag is now my preferred one. Congrats on the latest eliminations also.
