Jonatha Brooke began her career in 1980 as one half of the folk duo The Story with Jennifer Kimball. The two women met while atte nding Amherst College in Massachusetts. I had the opportunity to see them play from the start as I lived but 20 minutes from that college. They were the op ening act at the Iron Horse Cafe on several occasions before becoming headliners.
Brooke and Kimball split about 15 years later. Jonatha launched a solo career and has recorded several albums and a live DVD. Her latest effort is The Works, which was released in 2008. The set is a collection of songs inspired by Woody Guthrie.
This is a collection of various rarities that spans her solo output up to around 2007. Quiz: To win a copy of this CD, tell me which Northeast city was where both these women grew up.
Feedback:
Thanks for posting the mix. I've only heard "How Deep Is Your Love" and her latest album. I'll be sure to check out your mix here!
I can't believe you left off my favorite track, Dog Dreams. Very nice anyways.
I love Jonatha Brooke! Thanks for posting this!
Aren't they Bostonians?
Cambridge, across the river from Boston.
Refreshing to see a tribute to a female artist for a change!!
She is in demand for her soundtrack work as well.
