Comment:

It's been brought to my attention that I'm way too hard on the guy who runs this website, and I can certainly be far too cranky and irritab-le when all these little glitches and technical problems crop up. Apparently, this guy (Jim Karsten, if I remember the name correctly) runs this entire operation by himself in his off-hours. If such is indeed the case, then I need to seriously chill out a little (ha, ha!). I'm sure that this guy is doing his best to keep up with these problems, and that he doesn't need some irate hothead like me getting all bitchy about it. :( All I can say to Mr. Karsten is, "Keep up the good work!" :)

Anyhoo...today's elimination is none other than:
Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy (2008) (#160 - 4/12/09)
(Wow, that certainly didn't take long!)

Dorita - The Spirit < Closer < I've Seen It All < Hotel California < Desperate People < April Fool - This sequence of five which kicks off DISC #2 was very much deliberate and carefully thought-out on my part. Following a movie musical number from Bjork 'n' Yorke with the title track from the Eagles' Hotel California was certainly no accident - I thought in terms of mood and tempo that they went together quite well, and that lyrically they made for a very effective contrast in terms of attitude and setting. But it almost didn't happen: At first I planned to go from the instrumental Dorita directly to I've Seen It All and then follow that with KOL's Closer. But I wasn't so sure that Closer wouldn't have worked better before I've Seen It All instead of after. Once the idea to use Hotel California in this mix struck me, that pretty much sealed the deal, and now the sequence is as you see it!

Two Part Invention In D Minor < Not Anymore - A classical instrumental covered by a member of ELP followed up by the Dead Boys?! Would've been thought completely mental back in '77! But the Not Anymore is in the key of D Minor as well, so it's really not that big a stretch...!

Not Anymore < Deadline < Surprise! You're Dead! < Climbing Up The Walls < The Hardest Button To Button - Another sequence which was very much plotted and mapped-out in advance. I won't belabor you with any sort of explanation of why, but I just think it works! :)

Little Sister - And speaking of BOC: "I"ve got a fever! And the only prescription...is more cowbell!!"

Evermore < The Voice Of Love - And this is no accident, either! Although going from W.A.S.P. to Angelo Badalamenti may strike one as just totally weird and wrong, it just struck me as the perfect way to close. (The W.A.S.P. song, by the way, is one of those ballads that shows off Blackie Lawless's sensitive and spiritual side - Yes, he does have one, sort of...!) If you heard and knew both tracks, you'd perhaps understand...! :)

Even if I don't understand all your mixes and their comments, it is always fun to see what you post.
