Ride Our Seesaw on Two Decades and Two Styles: Retro Joe & Avocado Rabbit
Comment:
A while back, Retro Joe emailed to say he had an idea for a mix that I could share makingwith him. He'd put together ten songs, one for each year from 1975-1984 (which is for Joe the last ten year stretch where music still had a large body of worthwhile work).
In Joe's words: "I've pretty much decided not long ago that music began going through it's death throes from about 1975 on. What my selec~tions are about, is to give examples of music that still existed which gave us hope that music would continue to crank out high
quality work in the future."
Joe included a link to the songs he'd selec~ted that were big on the R&B cha~rts (though most scored on the pop cha~rts as well, some also very high). What I was to do was selec~t ten from the pop cha~rts
(preferably ones that didn't cha~rt on the R&B side or disco).
Well, I had my assignment and dove into the task at hand.
Joe's concept was that instead of it being an alte~rnate choice every other song, it should be ten selec~tions by one mixer in order by year followed by ten from the other mixer in reverse order by year (so 1984 would meet
in the middle). The reason for this is that since his selec~tions would be R&B and mine pop, this would prevent the mix from clashing too much.

Feedback:
Perhaps a convoluted methodology for assembly, but the result is a likable mix of some familiar faves!
Some of my favorites as well. I especially love the Rosanne Cash, Marshall Crenshaw and Don Henley songs, and it's hard to go wrong when there's a track from "The Wiz."
Only a couple of songs here that I know really well - and my favorite's got to be the Preten-ders' cover of Thin Line Between Love And Hate!
