NOTE TO FELLOW AOTM POSTERS:
I had originally posted this mix on April 16, 2008 - just a little over a year ago! See my comments for the re-posted PAZUZU MIX #55 as to why I'm also re-posting this one...

MY ORIGINAL COMMENTS FOR PAZUZU MIX #77 (as posted on April 16, 2008):
"Well, #77 didn't necessarily turn out quite the way I expected...to say the least! For one thing, the songs I wanted to use on Disc #2 turned out to all be pretty long, and collectively they used up quite a fair chunk of the 80-minute running time. Disc #1, on the other hand, turned out pretty much the way I envisioned it, except that I had originally wanted to use The New York Dolls' It's Too Late as part of the en-ding sequence, right in between Cinderella's Second Wind and Black Sabbath's Embryo/Children Of The Grave. When that plan didn't work out (and I think perhaps the final sequence is ultimately better without it), I then thought I would put the Dolls track on Disc #2. But I had neglected to consider just how much time the last four songs (#12-15) would take up - and it turned out to be over half an hour! So there were a few prospective numbers that had to be chopped in order to preserve the integrity of Disc #2's final four (which I would not ben-d or give quarter on)! Namely:

The New York Dolls - It's Too Late (1974)
Rollins Band - Do It (1988)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Call Me The Breeze (1974)
Yes - Dear Father (1970)

And I ultimately decided at the last second to throw in Soul Asylum's Spinnin' just as a way of bridging Disc #2's final four with what had come before, because in my opinion all my other prospects wouldn't really have worked. I was somewhat less than thrilled at the time, but overall I think it pretty much works. Perhaps next time, in addition to the four mentioned above, I'll use Soul Asylum's Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid) (from the same album, And The Horse They Rode In On, from '90)!

Aside from all those little comromises, I think this mix ultimately shows my strengths in coming up with good, solid o-pening and closing song sequences, which is always the most important thing for any good mix (in my opinion). This time around, I started both halves of the program with a series of loud metallic bangs! Granted, King Crimson may be "prog" and the Sex Pistols may be "punk," but I think the songs of theirs I chose really help to maintain and sustain a mood of aggression."

"D.P., your utter devotion to your mixcraft is transcen-dant. You treat each of your mixes as a work of art, with theme, color, depth, proportion, range, harmony, focus, data, emotion, and hefty doses of your own personality. You take the time and effort to make an entertaining, enlightening narrative for every mix you submit. Naturally, not everyone will find your mixes to their differing tastes, but this site is for ALL mixers. Rock on!!! (I have to confess I have nicked a few titles from some of your earlier mixes while creating my playlists, so thanks for the ideas.)"

"I hate to tell you, Darth, but this does less for me than your last few. Last three on disk 1, I can maybe live with, but not much else. I'll be looking for your reply in my email later"

"Oops, but I missed the Buttons track, which is another fave, as is the Beatles track. Too bad the Dolls bit the dustbin too."

"njr:Steal away, my frien-d! A good title is a good title, and if it's applicable, then by all means use it! :-)

And thank you for the kind words regarding my mixes. I don't know if there's always a cohesive or coherent overriding theme, although once in a while certain sequences of songs are conceived with a common thematic thread in mind. I'm more concerned with how the songs flow together from one to the other, and knowing when to switch things up and change the mood. Whether one song is in a related key to the one before it is also important to me.

doowad:Well, I guess you can please some people some of the time, but not all people all of the time. A cliche, but true nonetheless. No offense taken! [*wink*]"
