the rain came without reason, warning or hesitation. i'm sitting in the dark but the light from the moon still finds its way to me. the room is not sealed shut and i can hear the deluge as it b e g i n s, crowding out the silence, pounding on the pavement. i'm searching for comfort but all i feel is restless and out of place, like rainfall in summer months. i don't belong here - i know that much - so i hide where it feels safe. i can't leave the house, i can't face the day. it all feels so forced, and when i muster the energy, it's simply rehearsed. just going through the motions. just going through the motions. there is floundering and indecision where there once was certainty. i know i've been broken but i thought this was a fix. i set something into motion that's too late to nix. i stepped through the door and now i can't come back. i changed everything and now i can't go back. i took a risk and discovered it was everything i wanted and more, so why do i feel so empty when my heart feels so complete? i'd like to think i'm hopelessly hopeful, but in truth, it's nights like these i pray i die young and alone.
