Comment:
Just two eliminations today (both self-titled debuts, coincidentally!) (#178 - 6/3/09):The Stooges - "The Stooges" (1969)
Audioslave - "Audioslave" (2002)
"Padme's Ruminations" - Well, this marks the debut of film composer John Williams in my mixology! And as such it's also the first time I've used anything from the "Star Wars" Saga. But it certainly won't be the last! (For those of you who've seen "Episode III: Revenge of The Sith," "Padme's Ruminations" is that eerie musical piece that plays during that scene between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman where they're looking out their windows across the city and sensing each other.)
"Knife Prty" - No, that's not a typo (although I imagine it would probably be a common one), that's actually how the title is spelled!
"Dirty Frank" - One of Pearl Jam's B-sides, this funky, Chili Pepper-esque rocker with lyrics about a cannibal who drives buses for rock bands - devouring groupies and quite a few band members - was actually inspired by the band's own driver! (Although I'm pretty sure not the cannibal part...heh-heh-heh!)
"Billy Porter" - This tale of culture shock and urban paranoia was the first track on Mick Ronson's second solo album "Play Don't Worry," from 1975. I believe that the title character is meant to be Lou Reed. Apparently, Mick had gotten mugged once during one of his visits to New York City in the early '70s, and Lou had given him a few survival tips!
