I was in Tokyo during the presidential election, but even in the land of the Rising Sun, it was difficult to not feel its effects.

Everywhere I went, people wanted to know if I was American, and when I said yes, most congratulated me and my friends on our new president. After traveling the past 8 years, hearing the world complain about US policies and decisions, our entire collective karma had changed after one day. It was an event felt thousands of miles away, and one that gave me a lot of hope. . . I do wish I was in the US during the celebrations, but glad I was an ambassador, or representative in Japan.
