Comment:

Once again, this includes a whole slew of stuff from my Quentin Tarantino soundtrack collection! As such, it's sort of an extension of my previous mix (#212).

"Song Of The Century" / "American Eulogy: Mass Hysteria / Modern World" - Some more cool stuff from the new Green Day disc. The first track, the album's intro, is reprised at the beginning of the second (next-to-last on the album itself)!

"I'm Down" (X 2) - Two covers of a Beatles song which is quite possibly one of the greatest B-sides of all time! The first is from Aerosmith, the second is a live encore from Yes!

"Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" (X 2) - Last time it was a Motorhead song which was covered by Metallica, but this time it's Motorhead which is covering ZZ Top!

"The Rhythm Of The Heat" - This Peter Gabriel song from 1982 was used very briefly in Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" in 1994, although it didn't appear on the soundtrack album. You can hear that distinctive riff once Mickey and Mallory arrive at the "Drug Zone" store! (If memory fails, just remember: Green, green, green, green, green!)

"Viens Mallika Sous Le Dome Edais (from Lakme)" - This particular arrangement of an operatic aria by Leo Delibes was originally recorded for the soundtrack to Tony Scott's 1983 vampire film "The Hunger." But ten years later, Tony Scott used it again for his "True Romance," specifically for the infamous "Sicilian scene" with Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper!

"Musica Ricercata II: Mesto, Rigido E Ceremoniale" - You remember Stanley Kubrick's last film, "Eyes Wide Shut" from 1999? Then you'll definitely remember this coldly minimalist piano piece by Hungarian composer Gyorgi Ligeti! Who would've thought that a mere three notes could pack so much threat and menace? :-)

"Un Amico" - This lovely instrumental by the great Ennio Morricone was used by Quentin Tarantino in the new "Inglourious Basterds," near the end of the movie for the final confrontation in the projection booth between the characters portrayed by Melanie Laurent and Daniel Bruhl.

"Another Body Murdered" - A rock/rap crossover collaboration from the soundtrack to 1993's "Judgment Night." And I still haven't seen that film yet! Oh well, one of these days...

"Killer Cars" - And I threw in this cool Radiohead B-side for good measure!

Three eliminations today (#213 - 9/19/09):
Living Colour - "Vivid" (1988)
Porno For Pyros - "Porno For Pyros" (1993)
Audioslave - "Revelations" (2006
