Pop - Pop/Rock

Cogito Ergo Sum (Je Pense, Donc Je Suis)
Artist | Song | |
Moody Blues | In the Beginning [excerpt]
from On the Threshold of a Dream (1969) The excerpt includes just the narration up to and including "I think, therefore I am, I think", at which point the next track (Plastic Bertrand) segues (barges!) in.
Plastic Bertrand | Ca Plane Pour Moi (I Am King of the Divan)
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band | Help! I'm a Rock
Simon and Garfunkel | I Am a Rock
The Who | I'm Free | |
Michael Nesmith | Here I Am
Mason Williams | Here Am I
from Mason Williams Phonograph Record (1968) This track is perfect - cheesy as heck.
Michael Nesmith | I Am Not That
from Tropical Campfires (1992) Lyric to the second verse is: I am not the Walrus, I am not the Boss, I am not the King or Queen, I am not Jack Frost Well? The next track would be a no-brainer, no?
The Beatles | I Am the Walrus
Chris Bell | I Am the Cosmos
from I Am the Cosmos [reissue] (1992) Originally only released as a single (45RPM)on Car Records in 1978, Bell, an original member of Big Star, was to tragically die in a car accident in December 1978. One of the most gorgeous songs ever.
The Beatles | I'm Only Sleeping
The Photos | I'm So Attractive
from The Photos (1980) An underrated gem from the era. Love Wendy Wu's vocals!
Lou Reed | I'm So Free | |
from Transformer (1972) Omigod - love Mick Ronson's wailing guitar at the end of this tune.
The Beatles | I'm So Tired
The Clash | I'm So Bored With the USA
Cheap Trick | Ballad of TV Violence (I'm Not the Only Boy)
from Cheap Trick (1976) This tune's original title, of course, is "The Ballad of Richard Speck". You can look him up.
Brenda Lee | I'm Sorry | |
Apologizing for the mayhem of the previous track.
Ben Vaughn | I'm Sorry (And So is Brenda Lee)
from The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn (1986) Despite the title, a fairly conventional love song.
Hothouse Flowers | I'm Sorry
Bo Diddley | I'm Bad | |
Spencer Davis Group | I'm a Man
The Hollies | I'm Alive | |
Bram Tchaikovsky | I'm a Believer
from Strange Man, Changed Man (1979) Aside from Robert Wyatt's version, this is the best cover of this tune.
Lou Christie | I'm Gonna Make You Mine
Jimmy Lee | I'm Diggin' a Hole To Bury My Heart
Comment:
I had received a 2CD mix from a friend; the first CD was entitled "This Mix Thinks", the second CD was entitled "This Mix Thinks Not". The first thing that came to my mind was the old joke about Decartes walking into a bar being asked if he would like a drink. He replies "I think not" and disappears in a puff of smoke. Thus, Cogito Ergo Sum - I think, therefore I AM.Oh, the cover art is by one of my favorite contemporary artists, Chet Morrison. This piece is entitled "A Man and His Bird".
