Comment:

The first of what I hope are many SXSW mixes, as I plan on going every chance I get from here on out. This mix is sequenced in the order that I saw the bands, with a favorite song from the band's set where I was able to remember one.

My recap:
Top 5 Shows
1. Lord Huron -- Beautiful songs and great energy in a super small space.
2. Fang Island -- Started with everbody high fiving everybody else and ended with the perfect "Daisy."
3. A Place To Bury Strangers -- Impressed that they exude a true sense of menace.
4. ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead -- Still fighting the good fight for guitar-based indie rock.
5. (tied) We Barbarians and Sam Amidon -- I had no expectations for the former and their energy got my festival off to a great start. The latter featured sun, families on blankets, and the most touching moment of my festival -- Amidon leading the crowd in a sing-a-long to R. Kelly's "Relief."

Worst Show: Puro Instinct - the venue's acoustics did them no favors, but the band was transparently image conscious and out of their depth in such a professional-acting milieu.

Nicest surprise: The Luyas -- I wasn't impressed by their album, but they have a fun energy live.

Biggest Disappointment: Beach Fossils -- The guitars sounded great but the singer was horribly off key

Bands whose albums I like but who ended up leaving little impression: Yuck, Hooray For Earth, Erland & The Carnival

Wanted to see but narrowly missed: Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Oberhofer, Pete And The Pirates
