Comment:

i've gotten into more heated debates over the merits (or assumedly not) of this band than practically any other. "derivative!", "bland!", "big star / byrds / _________ rip-off artists!" and "boring!" they snort dismissively. pshaw. there's times for chin-stroking post-schmost-art-rock, and, well...there's times for pop songs, pure and simple. these songs are as timeless, classic and satisfying as a peanut-butter and banana sandwich, i say. "god knows it's true" never fails to make me giddy, while "alcoholiday" always breaks my heart in 23 places.....long live the fanclub.

These guys are amazing and this mix is a fitting testament to them. You've now given me the impetus to post my two-part, 160-min series on them... I'll do that tonight.

A delightful mix. I'm going to break out some of my old fanclub CD's now.

Very nice mix. Sometimes vanilla can be the tastiest flavor.

If I'm not mistaken I see no tracks from their latest HOWDY!, which I think is their best to date or at least their most precious. It's all sunshine and California. I like it, and I hadn't thought about them since 13. I think they released two albums after that(Grand Prix & ...Britain). What's your take on those?

Whoops, "I Need Direction" is a newbie (and a classic!). Sorry. As Mike Meyers might say, "If it's not Scottish, it's crap!!"

well, as "howdy" is still import-only, and i'm borderline broke as usual, i just shelled out for the "i need direction" EP, rather than the full-length. re. the two post-"thirteen" (which is my fave by them, actually) albums...they're good, a bit watery in parts, but still loaded with sunshine-dappled bliss mostly. oh, and i'd have to agree with mr. meyers on that comment, yeah -- what is in the water over there anyhow? those scots truly do have a way with the pop tune...

I quite like Howdy! so far, after not getting the 2 previous ones. "What You Do To Me" is genius.
