Comment:

Well, it's certainly been a while since I've posted anything to Art Of The Mix! :) For the longest time, I've been posting my CD mixes to Zen Running Order, because I have often become extremely frustrated with a lot of the technical glitches and viral problems which have beset this particular site in the past. Unfortunately, ZeRO is set to close down in a couple months, due to the inability to stay ahead of hacking threats.

Soooooooooo...I guess my plan is to take all of the work I've posted so far on ZeRO and transfer it over here. So far, I had a rather unpleasant scare when a nasty little bug prevented me from expanding each track selection while using the Cassette Format (even though I actually use CD's). But fortunately, that little problem's been dealt with now and I can begin the transference process. From now on, I'm going to be posting both older and newer mixes to Art Of The Mix, and I hope you at least find my work interesting (that is, if you're not already familiar with it)! ;)

This mix was originally submitted to Zen Running Order on March 22, 2010. The original notes and comments are as follows:

Darth Pazuzu (03-22-2010):
This one goes out to Johnny Luddite! (Get well soon...)

I feel like I should make an apology to my fellow posters. Not having a computer of my own and having to rely on the local library, I often have a very narrow window of time in which to make my posts. So consequently, I don't always have the time to check out what I'm sure is some brilliant mixing work from everybody else. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is. And if that ends up costing me attention and commentary from everybody else, then that's truly regrettable. I honestly don't mean to neglect or ignore anybody out there, but like I said, my window is extremely miniscule...

"Rienzi/Chopsticks Fantasia" / "The Scene } The Metronome } The Country Sword Dance" - Some more music from Ken Russell's "Lisztomania" (1975)! Kicking off both halves of this particular mix are the opening tracks from two different soundtrack discs to the film. The "Rienzi/Chopsticks Fantasia" is the first track on the original 1975 release, while "The Scene } The Metronome } The Country Sword Dance" is the opening track sequence to Rick Wakeman's 2002 version of the soundtrack. And each track (or track sequence) is particular to each disc, neither one being on the other!

"When I First Kissed You" > "One More Kiss, Dear" - Yeah, sure, I admit it: Extreme and Vangelis are probably the last two artists that one would imagine side by side. (But of course, such incongruities are my speciality, as anyone familiar with my work will attest!) However, in my opinion these two very old-fashioned, "torchy" piano ballads work very well together stylistically.

"All This Time" - I know that I'm seriously dating myself here, but I remember way back in 1991, on the eve of the first Gulf War, Sting doubled as both the host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live". After the opening monologue, he and his band kicked right into this very song!

Texas Hobart (03-24-2010):
Great Effort,well done!!

njr (03-25-2010):
Hey, you work very well under these limitations, so no need to apologize! Your passion still shows in every playlist. So much prog rock; so little time.

Mr. Mirage (03-25-2010):
Limitations? Not from what I have seen in your mixes... granted, we do hunger for them...

Oh, and I found that Extreme disc for like a dollar somewhere, and that particular cut is IMHO THE standout, just amazing!

doowad (04-08-2010):
Love to see Ian Hunter & Steely Dan on a Darth mix.
