Comment:

This mix was originally submitted to Zen Running Order on May 27, 2012. The original notes and/or comments are as follows...

Darth Pazuzu (05-27-2012):
"Smoke" < "Smoke Signals" - One does not necessarily think of English prog veterans Van Der Graaf Generator and Boston hard rockers Extreme in the same breath. But I can assure you, they would appear to be in complete agreement regarding the old cliche about smoke and fire!

"How Do You Sleep?" < "Let Me Roll It" - For anyone who knows anything about the state of relations between the ex-members of the Beatles in the wake of their 1970 split, this Lennon vs. McCartney sequence ought to have a certain resonance.

"(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame" < "Rusholme Ruffians" - Smiths fans ought to get a kick out of this! The Manchester band used to incorporate part of the Elvis song into theirs when performing it live, and it's only fair that they acknowledge the musical debt that the latter owed to the former!

"Written On The Forehead" - One of the many, many CD's I've purchased recently is PJ Harvey's "Let England Shake." I found it a rather profoundly moving listening experience, and it manages to feel quite epic and yet remain incredibly intimate at the same time. One of my favorites of 2011, if not THE favorite. I'll be including practically every song from this beautiful album in future mixes (one song per mix, of course).

"Stolen Prayer" - A terrific song from the pen of Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, written for none other than Alice Cooper!

I've been meaning to give Tin Machine another listen.
