A Beignet Of New Orleans
Comment:
Welcome to my shortest mix ever...! In late 2015, my now-fiancée and I took a trip down to New Orleans (we were there on November 10th when Allen Toussaint died), and this mix has been percolating ever since. As for beignets? We would go to Café du Monde and eat them practically every night, and like a beignet -- why not let this mix be little and sweet.... So maybe I don't have time to listen to 80-minute mixes any more; my schedule's far more packed than it was in 2005. This mix is barely over half an hour, edging "Music for Orpheus" (mixid = 116490) for brevity by a couple of minutes. I focused on the touchstones. We walked down Basin Street, Bourbon Street and Burgundy (which, maugre Tom Waits, is apparently pronounced bur-GUN-dee); we visited Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World; the Pharmacy Museum instructed us on the dangerous uses of Belladonna, the Deadly Nightshade. Oh yes -- and we took in a Frenchmen Street show by Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns, at which we bought their 2013 album whose title track so entrances me.
My fiancée was the one who originally photographed the beignets I used for my base photo (head to https://www.instagram.com/p/9458VWKvBi/). And you can also check out her blog at https://possibleday.com !

Feedback:
Nice. Good musical memories of the Big Easy.
