Comment:

The sun is about to set in a kaleidoscopic cloudburst of red and orange, but there's no way you're going to score the scene with anything obvious . . . so you cue Cocteau Twins and, instantly, you're cast adrift into a seductive abyss of ambient techno tones, soft and steady drum loops, low-level basslines, and shoegaze guitar sculptures that have experienced more treatments than a weekend emergency room. From the dawn of the '80s to the end of the '90s, lynchpin members Robin Guthrie (guitar) and Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) took alternative rock as far into the realms of the spiritual as it's possible for any band to venture — this overview of their output is guaranteed to transport you somewhere special.
