i love them, i hate them, i love them, i hate them. such is life with mogwai. explanations are in order: only one track from crappy new album "rock action" ('sine wave') and only one track from crappy last album "come on die young" ('year 2000 non-complient cardia'). damn it, these guys have some fantastic tunes, but the albums have been getting mighty spotty since the pretty fantastic "young team".....some of their finest moments have been as b-sides ('small children...' and 'rage: man', both of which appear here), and as mixes of other people's material. 'honey' is a spaceman 3 cover; i'd have liked to have thrown their version of black sabbath's "sweet leaf" on here, too, but it simply wouldn't fit. the title is an affectionate homage to the "blur: are shite" t-shirts they made and sold a few years ago in the UK, causing a media-created "controversy". ahem. i had to make this mix as i wanted to remember their past glories, and not just think about how disappointing they've become...oh, and blur are most certainly not shite. case closed.
