Sarah Harmer
Comment:
Sarah Harmer had already spent four years in popular Kingston band Weeping Tile prior to her solo debut, You Were Here. Opening with the cut "Basement Apartment" — a song carried over from Weeping Tile's repertoire — that album was hailed as the best debut of the year by Time magazine, sold 100,000 copies, and quickly established Harmer as a substantial songwriter and major new voice. International success also accompanied her 2004 follow-up, All of Our Names. As for her new album, I'm a Mountain, it demonstrates yet further growth, both lyrically and musically. A true heir to the legacy of Canadian song, Sarah Harmer is a testament to the power of belief — belief in herself and her ample abilities.
