Comment:
...in his 1995 book, "cigarettes are sublime", richard klein posits that "cigarettes are fiery batons with which you can summon the future and conduct it". hmmmm. i haven't quite found this to be entirely true (maybe i've been holding them wrong or lighting them incorrectly, perhaps?), but i was at least able to scrap together 100 minutes of songs about 'em. yeah, there's a few stretches here (namely the donovan / dead milkmen double-header), but all of these songs either reference the damn things in one way or another, or at least make me wanna light another one up. enjoy it...there's another 15 seconds off your tiny, tiny life.

Years ago I wanted to make a mix of songs that made mention of cigarettes....I don't think I had enough to make a whole mix though. "Last Cigarette" by Dramarama was gonna make the cut....GREAT!

an awesome mix. yay for songs about cigarettes. i thought about doing something similar once - with some of the songs you included, as well as others, like "portrait of a cigarette" by discount; "hymn for the cigarettes" by hefner; and the smiths song "what she said," if only for the line - "i smoke cos i'm hoping for an early death, and i need to cling to something." p.s. big ups for putting the monorchid on here.
