Comment:

From preening teenybopper heartthrob to bedsitter folkie to would-be Rushdie assassin, Cat Stevens has definitely had his share of identity crises. I think this will be the last of the "guilty pleasure" artists for awhile... I have more meaningful folks to compile. Okay, "Tea for the Tillerman" (the album) was one of my all-time favorite records when I was 10... my parents played his original Greatest Hits on every vacation car ride that we ever took... I grew up with the guy. And most of these songs are pretty great, if a bit hokey at times (I really, really wish that "Peace Train" had different lyrics, as I LOVE the tune). And yeah, "Morning Has Broken" and "Ready" are pushing it a bit, quality-wise, but I needed to fill out the disc... Have fun, folks.

It's a ton of fun to play on guitar, and it's one that I play in acoustic sets occasionally (on the off-chance that I DO a show, maybe once a year... lol). That is my favorite song of his, bar none, and it's actually a song that my father feels a strong connection to, as well...

No more "guilty pleasures"?! Guess I'll have to make my own Carly Simon mix.

jesus, i completely missed this. having only heard about half of these songs (due to horrible parenting i'm sure and lack of funds) i am completely interested in hearing the rest, to bolster my committment to being a more than casual cat stevens fan. if you could burn this one off for me i'd figure out some way to repay you. thanks kid, peace.

oh i just wanted to say that cat stevens said that whole rushdie thing was media manipulation of his words. not important, and maybe you don't even care or know this full well, but something about cat stevens embracing islam is very very amusing. anyway, as-salaam.
