Comment:
This mix spotlights the fine songwriting skills and vocal stylings of one Mister LD Beghtol, most widely recognized from his contribution to the Magnetic Fields' now legendary '69 Love Songs' (he was the featured vocalist on a half dozen tracks and the backup singer on many of the others)... He is also a founding member of two other bands: Flare (in which he is the chief songwriter and lead singer), and the Moth Wranglers (a collaboration with King Missile's Chris Xefos)... The above songs were culled from Flare's debut LP 'Bottom' and EP 'Circa' (*** both available at www.motherwest.com ***), assorted singles and compilations, and the soon-to-be-released Moth Wranglers' album 'Nevermind the Context'... The music is difficult to categorize: most of the Flare material sounds like an accomplished chamber pop quartet of manic depressives who have been listening to a lot of Low and Magnetic Fields... The Moth Wranglers' stuff is more idiosyncratic but equally rewarding... And both have great taste in covers (not just the above cuts from Moby, Everything But the Girl, etc.., but Lisa Germano, Bow Wow Wow and the Pixies)... All of the above tracks feature Beghtol on lead vocals except where noted... Great music - Well worth your time.Feedback:
holy hell! i've been completely infatuated with L.D.'s voice ever since i heard "all my little words" on the '69 love songs' box-set...it's so great to see a mix complied of his stuff here. can we work out a trade??
