Comment:
One of the greatest (and apart from a verrry small cult following) unheard hard rock bands of the last decade (I've given up trying to win them new converts - I believe they've been defunct for several years now anyway)... Their 2nd album 'Klinefelter' is one of my favorite albums of the nineties. Attmpted descriptions of their sound from past mixes: "If Metallica had been fronted by Nick Drake, and listened to a lot of Steely Dan and REM..." Emo/jazz/metal I guess... The first four songs are (most of) the keepers from their uneven self-titled debut album (which includes their surprisingly skillful and apparently unironic reading of "Girl From Ipanema")... The next 10 are all from the afformentioned (and IMO godlike) followup 'Klinefelter'. The rest are from their third and final album 'So Much for You' (available only as a German import - when it was still in print that is), and by then singer Byron Bailey was the only original member in the lineup... My only regrets are not including their cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" from their 'Carrot' EP, or their amusing take on "Here Comes Santa Clause" from the alt-rock holiday compilation 'A Lump Of Coal.' A band well worth investigating.
