Comment:
Whaddya mean you never heard of Bozo? B-O-Z-O? Chicago's longest running, locally produced kid's show is hanging up the over-sized shoes after nearly 40 years. I watched the special retrospective with my son & he told me it was lame. Amazingly, no clips from the (urban?) legendary "cram it clowny" episode were shown. The local op-ed sections have featured some whiney letters from boomers crying about the end of an era. Please! Like you even thought about Bozo for a combined 10 seconds in the last 30 years. These are probably the same dopes who wrote all the eulogies to Sheri Lewis & her sock last year. Thanks for letting me vent (like you got a choice). This mix was actually influenced by conversations with & solid sonic consumer advice from R Conroy. The original working title was "Dammit Rob, I'm a Scientist Not a Punk Rock Resource Center", but I didn't have a suitable image to convey that like I do with the Bozo title. One thing Rob, I didn't mind when you posted 18 mixes in a single day, but why are you resubmitting them now under a pseudonym?
Feedback:
Yeah, where were those boomers when the discontinued Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars? Why are they not in arms about Quisp cereal not being stocked in groceries along with Fresca a sugar-free, diet "uncola" that used good old saccharine! Fresca and its cola counterpart, Tab, were the sugar-free soft drink equivalents of early analog synths in that there was no mistaking their sweet taste for that of the real thing?
Right on! I'm much more saddened by the passing of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. I must have been outta town & missed the lavish Rat Fink retrospective.
Um...you can still get Chuck Taylors at JC Penney! They were in the last spring catalog! In pretty colors as well as normal black and red!
This mix ROCKS, lo-fi. We'll just chalk this one up for another trade... And thanks, Amanda, for alerting me as to the whereabouts of Chucks; I need to snag a couple of extra pairs before they vanish.
About Converse All-Stars, although the company went belly-up, Converse sold the rights to make the shoes to another company who now makes them like the originals, although not as well, I'm sure. (And I'm the son of a baby-boomer!)
PS Great mix....I got some new stuff (50 discs in the last month!) and am in the mood to trade a mix of recent purchases.
what an amazing lil mix, lo-fi....and i can't believe i missed out on the raging discussions over three of my life's obsessions: ed roth (RIP), converse all-stars and quisp. erick, who's making all-stars again, anyhow? where are my beloved suede one-stars when i need them most?! oh, and quisp is back, at least my local market stocks it. lo-fi, the reference to "shari lewis and her sock" almost made me squirt corona out my nose when i read it. good god.
I seem to remember a Quisp discussion here a few months back too ;) I miss that cereal. I know i can buy it online, but that just ain't the point, ya know? Damn fine mix here, lo-fi! I remember sitting in the school cafeteria with about 200 other kids watching Bozo waiting for the bell to ring. Ah, kindergarten...I think i threw up on Santa's lap that year.
I just have to chime in here-- they still make quisp in mexico, they were selling boxes of it at a grocery outlet store here in California. Also, the bagged "fake Capn' Crunch" put out by Quaker is Quisp (without the great packaging). My friend Gary was the quisp guy for halloween a few years back..had to be seen to be believed.
I must be tired. I also wanted to say, great mix!
I too love the great Bozo. To my knowledge, the "Cram it Clown" story is an urban legend, but it has some small credibility to it. Check out snopes.com, your one-stop shop for all things urban legendary. Nice mix, too.
