Comment:

...shit, where to begin with the fibbers? i guess for a lot of people, a band comes along at some point in their lives that just says it all; offers up a perfect, concise summation of their inner life and thoughts...and the fibbers fit that bill for me quite well, thank you. apart from dishing out a hearty blend of southern gothic, speaker-meltingly intense beauty-n-doom, and devastatingly-powerful vox (carla bouzlich, greatest set of fuckin' pipes ever, fuck all ya others, damn it), they were local heroes, too. i used to follow carla around the grocery store half a block from my apartment, trying desperately to summon up the courage to say something, anything, but it never seemed to happen. i lived in complete awe, reverence and terror of this band. and much like my beloved X had years prior, they sounded so much like los angeles that i couldn't help falling madly in love with 'em. they were eventually done in by the machinations of a hit-hungry major label (specifically: virgin records, die die die) and died an extended, hideously depressing slow death before my very eyes. when people would ask me for one of those irritating 5-words-or-less descriptions of their sound, i'd offer up a mumbled "patsy cline fronting sonic youth", but that never really began to convey the beauty, power and glorious chaos encapsulated within these songs...i know this sounds so damn corny it makes you wanna puke, but this band moved me in ways that no one has even come close to since. rest in peace, kids...and thanks for the tunes.

Far out dave e. Once again you've helped expose a criminally ignored band. What's become of them individually? I know the violinist played with Jane's Addiction, the guitarist with Mike Watts, but what's become of Carla's awesome pipes?

well, carla and nels have their own band, scarnella, now; bill (the bassist) plays on other people's stuff occassionally (including LD beghtol's band, the moth wranglers) and i think kevin fitzgerald, the drummer, is in another LA band now, but apart from that, i'm not sure. supposedly, carla's got her own webpage, www.carlabouzlich.com, but it didn't load when i tried it yesterday...
