Comment:
Although it was pumping Farfisa organ that would distinguish the groups hits the band was really the brainchild of one multi-instrument prodigy called Douglas Wayne Sahm, a San Antonio, Texas native. When Gram Parson stated he was trying to create "Cosmic American Music"'he may or may not have known the original cosmic cowboy had been making music since he was five, sitting in with the likes of Hank Williams, Sr, Farron Young, as well as regular spots on the Grand Ole Opry. Cosmic American Music is a term that rightfully applies to the sound of The SDQ. An unconscious fusion of Texas C&W, Western Swing, Texas Blues, Tex-Mex, German Polkas, Ornatte Coleman and everything else 'till it became too "far out". The bands biggest success, "She's About A Mover", came in the wake of The British Invasion, when legend has it the group was coined The Sir Douglas Quintet to have British sounding name and the debut record has them photographed in silhouette so nobody would notice the Chicanos. The Quintet never really disbanded, they just were dormant. In 1999, Doug Sahm suffered a fatal heart attack. The tape features SDQ and bands that owe a bit of gratitude to Sahm and company.Feedback:
OB1 you have done it again. I have learned very much from you oh mighty one. I am just a mere seedling compared to your oak tree like knowledge of "The Rock and The Roll"
The past few days I've been trudging with hip boots through the abundance of shitty mixes that have been posted in recent days, biting my tongue and biding my time and once again CASETTA, you have come to my rescue. One of these days, I'm going to send you $100 and ask for to send me the whole set. Absolutely brilliant. [I'm sure this whole post comes off as being a pretentious indie snob, but hey, I know my weaknesses.]
My mixes are for love not for sale.
I was thinking in terms of tape and mailing costs, not for profit. No need that you should cover the cost yourself.
I know Brandt, was just avoiding my home being raided by the FBI for bootlegging or something.
Wow, Casetta. You've read my mind again... Add this to my list (to be compiled months from now), okay? :-)
I woulda bet money that "S" would've been Sun Ra. Still, super-fine mix, and Sahm will surely be missed.
i hope you managed to get this tape sent out to the minions, Doug saved my life...man! (no complaints here.. other than Elvis Costello's presence)
