Comment:

Like the PIL mix, I spent far more time on this CD than any rational man should have, and like the PIL compilation, a fair number of these trcks were edited down substantially to make room for as many tracks as possible (not to say there weren't some exclusions)... Mark Robinson's contribution to indie rock is often acknowledged (both as an influence, and as the head of the indie label Teen Beat)... Here's the proof that he was no slouch as a songwriter... After the demise of Unrest, Robinson has kept quite busy, still running the label, and recording a wonderful album with Bridget Cross (as Air Miami) called Me Me Me, two with his other group Flin Flon, and two solo albums (one under his own name and one under the moniker Olympic Death Squad)... This compilation sticks strictly to the Unrest stuff... The cover is an inverse of Andy Warhol's 'The Suicide' (which I thought was appropraite, if not exactly in good taste, considering one of Unrest's most popular songs was called 'Teenage Suicide').

Fucking brilliant. This reminds me of the time when i called Teenbeat to ask if they had some Mark robinson stuff so I could do my all Unrest show. And the person on the other end of the phone (I can only assume it was Mark) said "what do you need that stuff for if its all Unrest?" And I said, "well, actually, it's unrest, air miami, grenadine" to which the person responded "that's not all unrest now is it?" Thanks Infrared.

Thanks for reminding me... In my summary I forgot to mention the two Grenadine albums Mark did with Jenny from Tsunami and Whatshisname from the Eggs (the first of which - Goya - is quite good), though I believe they were recorded when Unrest was still active... And yes, I remember reading that Mark runs Teenbeat out of his home, so if you call the label and someone picks up, it's probably Mark Robinson... And one last thing: Mark just did a mini (north)west coast tour with Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening/Halo Benders/Dub Narcotic/K Records demi-god), and I'm bummed they didn't come anywhere near my town.

Mark also has another solo LP out on trevor/Holland's record label pulCec called "Canada's Green Highways" as well as some experimental stuff out on Teenbeat. He's quite prolific.

I thought I mentioned that he has two solo albums... One as Olympic Death Squad, and one under his own name. Of the two, I much prefer the latter.

He actually has two solo LP as "Mark Robinson" Canada's Green Highways on pulCec and Tiger Banana on Teenbeat, both released in the last year. He had to cease using the ODS moniker because the IOC was going to sue him.
