Comment:

As a token gesture towards promoting Australian music overseas, I made this 3-CD mix for someone I know in the US. It was only meant to be one disc at first, but then it got out of hand and I realised a second would be necessary... and when nearly at the end of that I realised there was stuff I still had forgot to put on, so out came the third disc. I had the makings of a fourth disc, but realised I had to stop somewhere. I relaxed my usual unwritten rule about not using a given song on more than one mix, but did restrict myself to only one song per act. (If I'd gone for more than one track from some bands, I'd have twice as many discs to play with. Too much.)

These volumes all look extremely cool. I'm very impressed. I'm hooked on Australian/New Zealand rock myself (currently I'm awaiting for some New Christs and Celibate Rifles disks to arrive in the mail), but I see I have a long way to go--my record collection isn't near as extensive. BTW: Australia produced on of my favorite bands--The Hummingbirds (their two albums I love as much as the first two Big Star albums).

Sue: the AoF song is from the "Wonder From A Quarter Acre" compilation, which is also where the Avalanches tune comes from.

nice idea.

i don't recognise all these bands. but my usual australian mix would always include the skolars, hummingbirds, hard-ons and mothers.

the hummingbirds' "alimony" is probably the finest australian record ever made. imho, obv :)
