Comment:
The Look Blue Go Purple song is from the 'early years' New Zealand-based Flying Nun label compilation 'Tuatra'... The acoustic Lemonheads track is from the "Confetti" CD single... Frente's acoustic version of "Most Beautiful" is from their "Ordinary Angels" CD single... The Tuscon, Arizona-based Lollipop Guild is (cough, cough) my own current project with longtime friend/fellow musician/guitarist/songwriter John Dadey; "Fear" is a song we did for submission to a forthcoming Low tribute album... The Lush track is the b-side to the "Single Girl" 7-inch (and it's only on the vinyl version - the CD singles have different tracks), cowritten with the band's late drummer Chris Acland... The Suddenly, Tammy! song is from their still-in-record-company-limbo third album 'Comet'... The (non-LP) Luscious Jackson track is from a Grand Royal label sampler CD... The Beck song is from the first of two 'Sexx Laws' UK CD singles... The (Teenbeat label honcho and former Unrest/Air Miami/Flin Flon frontman) Mark Robinson track is from his new-ish solo LP 'Canada's Green Highways'... The cover image is a detail from a photo of Andy Goldworthy's 'Dove Arch'Feedback:
A great mix! I appreciate the detailed info on most of the songs. I recently heard that Lush track for the first time (I had to resort to Napster) and it's great. Another excellent Chris Acland penned b-side was Piledriver. I miss that band so much.
great mix. rip chris acland. is 'look purple go blue' the same people who were
in 'look blue go purple'? i've also got a f. nun comp. with this band on it, only it's listed as the latter. your low cover sounds interesting.

Sue: *very embarrassed*... the correct name of the Flying Nun band is INDEED Look Purple Go Blue... I'll fix the listing immediately (because I'm a bloody perfectionist when it comes to this nonsense)... I'll email you info about the Low tribute when/if it all comes together.
Ion: You're not alone in missing Lush... As you probably already know Miki is still pretty much MIA in the music scne these days (apart from guesting on a couple of other band's songs: Fruit and the Rentals), Emma's new band Sing-Sing will have their debut album out this fall - which sounds promising based on "Feels Like Summer" and "I'll Be" but I doubt it will compare with classic Lush... And how disappointing was the lack of even one rarity on the 'Ciao' 4AD best-of collection?
