Comment:
Fire music. constructed over two consecutive saturday morning sessions. phantom, hyperactive, ecstatic, celestial, transcendent. music that blows holes in concrete walls and expresses absolute truths. inspired by two things: 1) ken burns and wynton marsalis: they oh so cleverly skimmed over this entire movement, giving lip service to coltrane's more experimental bent but acting as if it were a diversion, while completely ignoring albert ayler. Acting as if experimental, free jazz was an upstart movement, fading as quickly as it began. It continues today, as witnessed by many of the newer acts I have included. Marsalis has been known to refuse to refer to some of these artists as "jazz" though--out of fear? 2) a recent article in Wire magazine devoted to fire music, from which the cover art is lifted. title taken from amiri baraka & new york eye and ear control. 110m.
Feedback:
YEAH!!!Brotzmann, Ayler, etc. This mix is great. As always a Bofus mix doesn't just open up the door to the mind, it blows it off the hinges.
mmmmmMmmmmm-! very fine, well constructed jazzzzz mix...and everything you say it is. The "nipples" track is what, 12-Meg (a frightening exercise in download-ability!). Perfect...!
Yes, nipples would be a lengthy download. clocking in at 17 mins. or so--I had downloaded it last year. After hearing it, I absolutely had to go out and get the album. Atavistic's Unheard Music Series gets my nod for reissue label of the new millenium.
In a recent interview, Bill Clinton was asked if he listens to anything that people would find surprising. "Brotzmann, he's a brilliant sax player" was his 'suprising' response.
Fuck, bofus. This is amazing. :-) (See below comments from others re: specifically noteworthy artists).
stunning, amazing. i wish i could do purely jazz mixes but they end up sounding...wrong. wynton marsalis is fantastic-in my opinion
Whoah. This is good. Amen. Yr inclusion of Test is impressive.
Hey, Bofus. I was just surfing through this site, found this fantastic mix, and realized who you are! Excellent mix! Mad props to you!
This looks great. I really love Stellar Regions.
i've been drooling over this mix for some time now. it just looks simply fantastic. trade? please?
