Comment:
The closest approximation of a single-disc best-of Smiths collection we've been given so far (that represents *all* of the studio albums) has been the rather unsatisfying 18-song 'Singles'... In the case of The Smiths, some of the album tracks are downright essential, while a few of the songs they chose to release as singles have somewhat baffled me... This imperfect compilation is my response to that (IMHO) even more imperfect official release... Admittedly, there are a few regrettable omissions here (Reel Around the Fountain, What Difference Does It Make, the 'Queen Is Dead' title track), and I change my mind all the time about whether "Golden Lights" is anything more than a charming throwaway (but I like it a lot... so it's here), but apart from that, this covers the essentials (more or less chronologically)... The cover art is the 1885 painting 'Skull with Burning Cigarrette' by Vincent Van Gogh.Feedback:
good mix. Shame about no TQID or WDDIM but still a brill smiths mix
What, no Frankly Mr. Shankly?
