Comment:

While his status as a Golden State legend starts in the early ‘90s, E-40 has earned the respect of everyone from Lil Jon to Master P in the decades — and countless records — since his underground days. That’s what happens when your easy-going flow falls right in line with the tortoise-like tempos of G-funk and the hectic, laser-guided sounds of the Dirty South. Not to mention the hyphy (as in “hyperactive”) scene E-40 helped spark, showing the rest of the country what it means to get crunk way out West (the cruise control synths of “Sprinkle Me,” the atom bomb basslines and sly Beastie Boys sample of “Turf Drop,” and, well, the rest of this set, really).
