Comment:
A little mix to make the travel time go by. An updated attempt to recreate the spirit and mood of car radio listening back before the days of focus groups. Back when it was BROADCASTING not NARROWCASTING(research groups reducing it down to a specific demographic to warp the listener into the "perfect consumer". Music is programmed as aural wallpaper to help compliment advertising). Back when as a wee tyke, I would be exposed to a variety of sounds and genres, new and old, even on the AM radio dial.Feedback:
...see the nutty thing here is how this Casetta dude can crank out mixes like these IN BETWEEN the ROCK SNOB series...it's amazing. I'd be sequestered in the local library doing research for the next installment (and even THEN--I get distracted by the Library Babes)...where he just lets 'em fly, left-right-left...and now he's even adding freakin' ARTWORK...like I said before...AMAZING !!
...nice hat, btw. ~:-p
This is absolutely killer, Casetta. In between all of the varied-genre classics here, let me give you a hearty nod for "Flutes of the Chi" (my favorite recent Ween tune).
Awesome lost oldies selection. Love it!
I forgot to give huge cheers to your Redd Kross pick and Scott Walker picks (*clears throat*). Can't say I share your love for the Raiders, now that you've brought them up, but hey--we all have our differences.
and there are some not so oldies on the tape. Come to think of it, I don't think the "oldies" stations I have heard play any of these songs, sure some of these artist are unfortunatly subjugated to "oldies" graveyard and thus for some reason are considered "less than"(ie. The Raiders and The Turtles) which is unfortunate.
I agree with you Casetta. I saw Mark Lindsey with The Chesterfield Kings at Cavestomp and he still has great pipes. I also saw Paul Revere and The Raiders in Vegas for kicks and what an embarrasment. If he and Mike Love (Beach Boys) want to make sure thier bands legacy is reduced to crap, why not shoot themselves and spare us the agony.
Ah, Monte, but shooting themselves would give Mike and Paul unforeseen hip credibility...
Just wondering, CASETTA. Do you have EVERY RECORD ALBUM EVER MADE? :) Cool mix, dude!
I have many holes in the collection. The want list is quite long.
i'm like CASETTA.... there's always... more... MORE to be had. oh gosh, oh golly, oh wow! whatta mix.
Nina Simone...nice pick!
Nothing new to say here other than you still rock the beats that make me move my feets. On the sunnyside, Papa!
Yeah, the insatiable need to aquire MORE never stops, spoon.
Crabby Appleton... 'Go Back' - wow that takes ME back! Most diverse grouping award-of-the-day!
Casetta, you rule! And I agree with you (& spoon & rob) - we need to keep acquiring more music!!! Believe me, if I had a million bucks, I'd probably spend most of it on music! As for the mix, it's awesome, as usual.
Fuck corporate radio. That's all I have to say. Thanks Casetta.
