Summer '91. This was from when the college radio statio for SDSU, of which I was music director at the time, was kicked out of their previous broadcasting space and was in a tiny room for a while before moving up above the Backdoor. This is the stuff that came in that summer that I was listening to and wanted to keep. I have many of these CDs now, I'm proud to say. But not the Young Fresh Fellows, which I'm ashamed to admit. And for you to find them, you'll most likely have to cruise the used CD bins. I'm willing to bet that most of these bands aren't known by a large percentage of people. this certainly takes me back. nice. gotta love college radio - there's (usually) nothing better on the dial than it. FYI: I know all but 3 artists: downtown science, leslie spit treeo and mark germino.
Well, Sue, you certainly win the Obscurity Knocks prize! The "hipnocenti" would know YFF, probably Hammerbox, Consolidated and Kirsty MacColl, but knowing the Mock Turtles takes some doing. And if you get a chance, check out the Mark Germino track - it's about a free-form DJ who gets kicked off his station 'cause they're changing the format. VERY college radio. :)
i know the candyskins, ned's, EMF (that was huge), and the singer out of Mock Turtles - his brother's a footballer, I think. Martin someone.
