Comment:
Stephen Duffy made his only big commercial splash in the early/mid-eighties with the new wave international dance hits "Kiss Me" and "Icing On the Cake," after which he unplugged his synthesizer and created the more folk-oriented Lilac Time (name courtesy of a line from Nick Drake's "River Man")... His new band never matched the success of his early hit singles, but over next few years he released some lovely albums (the Andy Partridge produced 'All For Love & Love For All' being my personal favorite) and he has amassed a quality body of work. After a 9-year absence, he put out a new record last year which ranks with some of his best work... This compilation draws from all of his Lilac Time albums (special emphasis on 'Love For All' of course) and is bookended by his early hit singles and a live-in-the-studio medley of Prince's "Raspberry Beret" and "Kiss Me"... Those looking for an introduction to this wonderful band are recommended to check out a new 2-disc best-of import called 'Compendium: The Fontana Trinity' which contains most of these songs... The cover photo was taken on a road-trip to the Adirondaks about 5 years ago.Feedback:
A nice mix by an underrated artist/band. Have you heard the "Welcome to Hell, Here's Your Accordian" EP? It contains a cover of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi.
Great, great, great job. I love the Lilac Time--easily my favorite UK band.
