Comment:

Since my new album is in part about death and scales for measuring abstract things, I thought I'd do a list of music made by people who are still around. Since the invention of the sampler, music has become so separated from the context in which it was created that we have left ourselves few ways to navigate 'round such an enormous archive as iTunes. It was odd to think of "dead" music and to see the impact it had on my choices. Speaking of context, it also allowed me to try and reclaim Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots" from the grim memory of Will Smith's version.
