I recall seeing Motorhead and afterwards I had ringing in my ears for almost a week. They were LOUD and this was an outdoor show. I swore I did serious damage to my hearing after that. Thankfully I didn't. When it comes to hard rock/heavy metal, in my book MOTORHEAD is the apex.
Thanks, lo-fi... don't mind if I do. :-) Oh yeah, Motorhead were indeed great.
Motorhead w/ Metallica as openers ca. '84 is one of my top "wish I had a time machine to go back & see it again" shows.
I forgot to mention that I'm vaguely troubled by the absence of my two favorite Motorhead tunes--"Overkill" and "I'll Be Your Sister"--although these picks, as noted before, are really, really strong.
"Overkill" got passed by because of it's length & my avoidance of tracks that dipped into that dreaded double bass drum speed metal thump. I wanted to focus on the pub rocking, tight, 3 piece early stuff. Never cared for those later 2 guitar lineups & Brian Robertson wasn't ugly enough for the band (plus he 'strummed' instead of 'riffed'). "I'll Be Your Sister"? What the fuck was I on while making this that caused me to skip that one!?
This is some most excellent rocking. Cheers!
Overkill was their second studio LP...it WAS the early 3 piece stuff.
I've been killed by Lemmy to!!
once upon a time Lemmy bought a Kerrang of me in the recordstore, he said rrrehh
