"Pick Up the Pieces" is one of disco's era-defining instrumentals. (OK, they shout, "Pick up the pieces!" every now and then; don't be so picky.) Because the tune was so rhythm-driven, many questions arose after drummer Robbie McIntosh died as to whether the band could continue. The title track of their second Atlantic album, "Cut the Cake," proved the naysayers wrong. Hidden gem: their reggae-disco fusion version of Bacharach & David's "Walk On By."
