Bold-minded artists were busy breaking new ground throughout 1993, without looking back to see whether the world had caught up. Björk graduated from the Sugarcubes to a shockingly original solo career, blending the electronic, the orchestral, and the otherworldly on “Human Behaviour.” Arrested Development took socially conscious hip-hop to new heights, urging respect for the homeless on the Sly Stone-sampling smash “Mr. Wendal.” And England’s Stereo MC’s moved to their own groove by colliding dance, hip-hop, and Britpop on their electrifying Stateside breakthrough, “Connected.”
