1994
Comment:
A lot has changed since 1994. Who would’ve guessed, for instance, that some gang of goofy undergrounders called the Flaming Lips, who scored an alt-rock novelty hit with the surreal psychedelia of “She Don’t Use Jelly,” would become world-beating arena-rockers in the 21st century? Or that industrial-rock renegade Trent “Nine Inch Nails” Reznor, who shouts expletives while hanging naked from a butcher’s hook in the controversial video for “Closer,” would be donning a tux to accept a Best Original Score Oscar® some 17 years later. And when Jeff Buckley covered “Hallelujah” on his debut album, it was still a little-known Leonard Cohen track, but Buckley’s vivid version inspired so many other interpreters that the song became a standard.
