1995
Comment:
Wave after wave of fresh new sounds broke on Stateside shores throughout 1995. U.K. trip-hop pioneers Portishead made their way to the mainstream with the moody milestone “Sour Times.” Adina Howard showed that even an R&B sexpot/siren could roll with a G-funk flow, on her adults-only hit “Freak Like Me.” And long before Ludacris or Lil Jon came along, Goodie Mob helped put Atlanta on the hip-hop map with “Cell Therapy,” one of the earliest outings for a certain Cee-Lo Green. With so many new moves being made everywhere, it almost seemed shocking when Del Amitri leaped into the Top 10 with the ’60s-inspired, precision-tooled pop of “Roll to Me.”
