Comment:

In 1997, the possibilities of pop seemed suddenly open to interpretation from artists all over the globe. OMC’s Beck-like, postmodern cut-and-paste approach to dance-pop on “How Bizarre” marked the first time New Zealand’s indigenous Maori made it to the U.S. charts. India-born, British-bred one-man band Jyoti Mishra — better known as White Town — staged a mini synth-pop revival years ahead of the Electroclash scene, with “Your Woman.” And the sugary sounds of Swedish phenomenon the Cardigans crossed disco-ball boogie with light-as-a-feather alt-pop, with Nina Persson’s comely croon leading the way on “Lovefool.”
