Comment:
The Mammoth Music Mart is an annual Chicago area event that I've attended for at least the last 15 years. Every year, I compile a best of mix drawing from my fave purchases & a few "inspired" choices; things I spot at the sale that I'd forgotten I owned. This year was the first where CDs surpassed the vinyl brought home. Still, this mix is 100% drawn from scratchy old wax sides. I'd nominate just about everyone on here as a candidate for remastered boxsets, especially The Lovin' Spoonful who are my new "buy everything you find by" band. Some above average things that didn't fit or format onto this mix; Gentle Giant's "Octopus", 1st Tubeway Army, Cure live fanclub only LP (mistakenly identified as "3 Imaginary Boys" heh heh), 1st Sham 69, Dr John "Night-tripper". An added bonus this year was meeting the bofus family & chatting on end with them while dodging fellow collector scum.Feedback:
I like using enforced semi-randomness as a means of compiling a tape, even if I don't do it that often. Short circuits the thought process, very dada and all that. Nice mix, this. Are you referring to the first Dr. John there (Gris-Gris)? If so, nice score, I love that album. I've heard the rest of his stuff isn't so good, but I'd love to be proven wrong (read: suggestions anyone?).
Cool stuff!! I just recently picked up at a nieghborhood yard sale a slew of Lovin' Spoonful records. The records were in surprisingly good shape. In the sleeve I found what I believe is the original owners homemade scarp book of pictures and clippings of the band. Aside from the great tunes, this nugget of pop culture is neat-o, or should I say magically groovy.
Awesome stuff.
aaaaahhhhhhh!!!! stop it! stop it! stop making such good mixes. geeze. how can i even begin to compete with a tape like this? ugh.
god a love sweet.
yea this mix fuckin' rocks, and scratchy vinyl is where its at brother.

"fellow collector scum"...funny!
This is fucking godhead, as my friend Dave E. once said.
this mix pisses me off for two reasons...one, because cleveland doesn't have an MMM type event and two because my fucking phono cartridge is still backordered! nothing personal lo-fi ;)
very fine mix, mr. lo-fi. and it was indeed great to finally meet and chat with you under at MMM. somehow i don't think our box of goodies matches up to yours though! this looks spectacular.
hmm, damn typos. that's supposed to read "under the tent at MMM". ugh!
Thanks Luke. After being struck in the head by a radioactive copy of the first Ramones LP as a teenager, I've been gifted with a unique ability to sniff out rare vinyl.
