Given the boldly dramatic, jazz-infused strains of Astor Piazzolla's famous 1974 composition "Libertango," listeners might never know that the great, Argentine-born tango master had, at age 52, recently suffered a heart attack — or that he was attempting to scale back on the furiously prolific, experimental outpourings that had featured the innovating of tango songs with the opera [i]Maria de Buenos Aires[/i] ("Balada Para un Organito Loco") and the blending of tango rhythms with fugue formations ("La Muerte del Angel").
