For heatherspace. Finally. Title from the Elvis tune.Feedback:
Sweet mix, Rob.
"I'm Crying" is a great song by The Animals. In fact I could spout off a whole list of others. I have touched on this subject before on how some artist are commissioned to the "oldies" graveyard and thus unjustly plagued as "less than worthy", while a band that appears on a Nuggets or Pebbles comp where their output of work is one great song or two they are given more merit. Because they lacked some popularity they escape the "oldies" tag and are spared. Anyway, nice mix.
I love the title of this mix so much, the damn tape could be blank and I wouldn't care. But as a bonus, it's got an interesting track listing, so cheers! Look forward to hearing it. Muchas thankius, Robbers.
[Warning: Because Rob is just sooo pretentious, I see it fit to give him what will undoubtedly be considered an incredibly pretentious review of this mix he has made for me. So if this bothers you, stuff it.]
In my experience as a mixer, I've always gotten more enjoyment from making mixes for others than receiving them. Not that I've never gotten awesome mixes, but just -- well, you always have that nagging feeling after you've made an especially astounding mix that the person receiving it will never appreciate it as much you do. Thus, the true crux of mixes.
So it's actually a rare and beautiful thing when one is astounded by a mix, so much so that they maybe just hate the mixer a little bit for doing it first.
This mix is, in a word, lovely. One of those mixes that you put on as background music, but then you realize five songs in that you are no longer paying attention to anything else, and you lay on your bedroom floor and listen. Which is what I did. By the time the Animals' "I'm Crying" came on, I just stopped and obeyed the mix's demand to just breathe and take it in. A lovely array of songs, some of which I never would have imagined liking -- Randy Newman -- while others were tucked between songs I never would have imagined could sound so perfect. Anyone who can have Fugazi and Chet Baker on the same CD and have it sound as natural as water pouring into water -- he deserves all of the praise he receives on this site, and all of my thanks for this mix.
Oh, and the Gene Clark song? I'm in love. Thank you, Rob, very much. And it's still the best mix title I've seen. ;)

I must have a copy of this mix. You selected one of my favorite Cat Power songs and I LOVE the Kris Kristofferson choice. So I'm feeling a little weak-kneed right now. How can I get a copy? How do we start the trade negotiations?
