Pop-punk-lite shimmers like hair gel on a faux-hawk, and cuts to the chase like a kipper to the face, when delivered by Montreal's irrepressible Simple Plan. The five-piece has roots in high school rock (they used to call themselves Reset) but really hit its stride in 2002 with the release of its debut album, [i]No Pads, No Helmets . . . Just Balls[/i], which featured support from Joel Madden (Good Charlotte) and Mark Hoppus (Blink-182). Pay no attention to the hipper-than-thou folks who bridle at Simple Plan's commercial tendencies — these cuts are a rallying calling for junior rebels the world over.
