Travel further into the land of Syd with “Bob Dylan Blues,” which was unearthed from David Gilmour’s archives for The Best of Syd Barrett, and appropriates Dylan’s early sound, though the lyrics sound like they were composed on the spot. “The Gnome,” a whimsically psychedelic track from Pink Floyd’s debut album, deftly captures the innocence, and silliness, of the time. There’s a surprising mellowness in the dreamy chords and gentle keys of “Wined and Dined” from second (and final) studio album Barrett, while the scattergun wordplay and lyrical hints of romantic malaise on the same album’s “It Is Obvious” form a tension with the song’s happy-go-lucky rhythm.
